2026 iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championships Thrives

Furthermore, the 2026 iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championships resumed racing after a weather delay. Competitors gathered at Club de Vela La Ballena Alegre, under sunny skies and soaring temperatures. Nearly 400 young athletes from 36 nations took part in this exciting event.

Additionally, the weather posed significant challenges for all involved. Air temperatures reached approximately 36°C, prompting an Orange Heat Warning from the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Staying hydrated and managing the heat became essential for participants, coaches, and officials.

Intense Competition Among Top Sailors

Moreover, the conditions on the water were far from straightforward. A light east-south-easterly thermal breeze made its presence felt, fluctuating between 6 and 13 knots. This variability created a complex racing environment, requiring constant vigilance from sailors and the Race Committee alike.

Notably, the U19 Men were the first to launch, beginning their races just before 14:00. Three Sprint Slalom races took place without a hitch. Remarkably, the leaderboard remained unchanged, with Itamar Levi (ISR), Mattia Saoncella (ITA), and Artun Senol (TUR) each maintaining a perfect scoreline. Their ongoing dominance sets the stage for an exhilarating rivalry throughout the championship.

Emerging Talents and Future Challenges

In addition to the U19 Men, the U17 Boys also showcased their skills, completing four races in the same format. Spain's Gonzalo Ruiz Mendez (ESP), France's Swann Manhaval (FRA), and Germany's Moritz Schleicher (GER) demonstrated remarkable consistency, remaining tied at the top after seven races. Their performances indicate a fierce battle as the competition unfolds.

Meanwhile, the lighter conditions allowed for some action among the girls’ fleets. The U19 Women managed to finish one race, but insufficient races prevented an updated overall ranking. In the U17 Girls category, Turkey’s Parla Kabasakal (TUR) won the only completed race of the day, solidifying her overall lead. Ece Melis Bas (TUR) remains in close pursuit, with Poland's Maria Miarczynska (POL) moving into third place after a commendable performance.

In summary, the third day of the championship brought a much-needed boost after previous interruptions. With several days of racing ahead, competitors must adapt to the evolving conditions along the Costa Brava. The quest for the 2026 iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship titles is just beginning, and anticipation is high as racing resumes tomorrow at Club de Vela La Ballena Alegre.
