The Salcomber Yacht Club kicks off the 2026 season with an exhilarating commissioning race at Batson Boat Park. Nineteen boats launch into a sunlit harbor, taking advantage of a flooding tide and a shifty 8-10-knot WSW breeze. Race Officer Chris Cleaves sets a challenging course, 1-6-5-7-4-2-3, featuring starboard roundings that test competitors’ skills.
John and Katy Meadowcroft lead the fleet in their Merlin Rocket, while George Reynolds dominates in his Laser, finishing fourth on the water and winning on corrected time after a stellar Festive Series. Greg Hoar secures second in his Laser Radial, with Allan Willcox in third on his Laser 4.7.
Memorable moments abound, from Graham Cranford-Smith’s mainsail mishap to Tim Fells’ double swim. Adrian Griffin showcases a classic Solo built in 1963, marking a stunning start to the season.
