Sydney Harbour Set to Host 2026 East Coast Championships for Young Sailors

The 2026 East Coast Championships are set to showcase over 300 of Australia’s top young sailors in Sydney Harbour. This major event, organized by the NSW Optimist Association and Woollahra Sailing Club, takes place from June 6 to June 8, 2026, coinciding with the King’s Birthday Long Weekend.

The regatta features 156 boats competing across seven fleets, making it one of the largest junior sailing events in Sydney in recent years. This championship is crucial for the Australian dinghy sailing scene, especially following the end of Sail Sydney's dinghy racing program, which has limited high-level competition opportunities on Sydney waters.

The East Coast Championships emphasizes community sailing and demonstrates the dedication of volunteers and clubs to create premier racing experiences. The event aims to foster participation from beginner to high-performance youth classes, allowing sailors to engage in a vibrant regatta environment.
