The weekend of July 18-19 featured stunning scenery with the Lakeland fells as a backdrop. Additionally, the weather played a crucial role. Competitors faced light to moderate winds ranging from 5 to 10 mph, which shifted direction dramatically throughout the races. The surrounding hills created a challenging environment, making it essential for crews to stay vigilant and adaptable. Those who excelled were those who kept their heads out of the boat and adjusted to the ever-changing conditions.

Furthermore, Saturday’s races showcased intense competition and tactical prowess. Local sailors Andy Smith and Ali Rimmer from Bassenthwaite made an impressive start, securing two race victories and a third place. However, Sunday presented new challenges. A promising breeze vanished just as the fleet approached the start area, leading to course adjustments by the race committee. After several delays and a general recall, racing finally commenced. As on Saturday, the wind was inconsistent, leading to rapid changes in fortune for the competitors.
In summary, despite the variable conditions, Smith and Rimmer displayed consistent performance, clinching the Northern Area Championship with a race to spare. Lawson and Roberts finished strong, securing second place, while Cormack and Cormack rounded out the podium in third. The event showcased the excitement and unpredictability of Sailing, reinforcing Bassenthwaite's reputation as a premier venue in the GP14 calendar.
