Sixteen sailors faced challenging conditions at the Eastern Area Solo Open at Rollesby Broad Sailing Club. This event revealed why local knowledge is crucial, but it was the visiting competitors who dominated the leaderboard.
Race day featured unpredictable winds and constant position changes, leading to several tie breaks. Race 1 kicked off with a shifty westerly breeze and a chaotic start. Jasper Barnham capitalized on the early confusion, leading to a decisive victory, while Godfrey Clark settled for second and Chris Bunn took third.
Race 2 commenced in light winds, with Clark emerging as the early leader and ultimately securing another win. Daniel Bull, sailing a borrowed Solo, put up a strong fight but Bunn overtook him for second place just before the finish.
A developing sea breeze set the stage for Race 3, where Clark continued his dominance, claiming his second win of the day. Barnham followed closely, finishing second, with local expert John Saddington taking third.
In Race 4, Barnham secured yet another victory, holding off Bryan Morum. The final standings crowned Jasper Barnham as the overall winner, with Godfrey Clark in second and Chris Bunn in third. Robert Hawkings was the top local, finishing seventh overall.
