Leigh-on-Sea Sailing Club hosts a thrilling Solo Open Meeting, showcasing both new and classic boats in a tightly contested event. Here's why the results from this competition could reshape the standings for the season.

The event, now in its tenth year, welcomed eleven entries, including seven visiting sailors. An early start offered competitors bacon butties and coffee while the tide came in over the Thames Estuary mudflats. Under a brisk westerly wind, Jonny Wells in boat 5597 seized the lead in the first race, completing a dominant performance to secure victory. Vince Horey in 6134 finished second, followed by Robert Laurie in 5863.

Race two saw a significant wind shift, benefiting Horey, who claimed first place despite a fierce chase from Laurie, who took second, with Godfrey Clark finishing third. The final race was a nail-biter, with positions fluctuating until the very end. Horey edged out Laurie for the win, with Clark securing third.

With two first-place finishes, Horey clinched the Mighty Oak Brewery Trophy for the fourth time. The day concluded with a BBQ and a prize-giving ceremony led by Colin Walker and Steve Barber. Alan Roberts in 3315 was the top LSC boat, finishing sixth overall.
