Jonny Wells claims victory in the 2026 Rooster Solo Vintage Championship at Leigh-on-Sea Sailing Club, securing his title with two impressive wins. This championship attracted eight visitors alongside nine club members, showcasing 17 classic wooden boats over 20 years old, honored by Rooster Sailing.

The event kicked off under perfect conditions—warm sunshine and a light to moderate easterly breeze. Following a hearty breakfast and a briefing from PRO Steve Corbet, the fleet launched into action. An unusual general recall marked the start, but once underway, Wells quickly established his lead in the first race. Despite a chaotic moment for Darren Ballard at the windward mark, Wells maintained his pace, finishing first, with Mike Barnes rising to third.

Race two mirrored the first, with Wells again taking the top spot, followed by Ballard and Barnes. The final race featured a strong start from Brian Morum, who ultimately won, with Matt Tothill and Wells rounding out the top three.

Brenda Hoult and Val Mellon represented the ladies well, with Hoult finishing seventh overall. Wells' two victories earned him the championship, delighting the competitors who celebrated their success back at the clubhouse during the prize-giving ceremony.
