Takamoto Katsuta secures his first World Rally Championship win at the grueling Safari Rally Kenya, marking a historic moment for the Toyota driver. After four second-place finishes, Katsuta triumphs with a smart performance amid brutal conditions, finishing 27.4 seconds ahead of Hyundai’s Adrien Fourmaux. This victory extends Toyota’s winning streak at the Safari Rally since its return in 2021.
Katsuta faced setbacks, including a minute lost due to an intercom failure and a double front puncture that dropped him to seventh. As his rivals faltered, including Oliver Solberg and Elfyn Evans, Katsuta capitalizes on the chaos. A tearful Katsuta thanks co-driver Aaron Johnston, his family, and fellow competitors for their support. This win marks the first for a Japanese driver in the WRC since Kenjiro Shinozuka in 1992.
