Gresford Sailing Club launches the 2026 Dragon Series with a thrilling competition that showcases young talent from across North Wales. This event is a pivotal moment for local sailors, offering insights into their development and competitive spirit.
On April 26, sailors faced a challenging 6-12 knot South Easterly breeze, leading to an action-packed day of racing. The schedule included six handicap races, featuring a Silver fleet for experienced competitors and a coach-supported training fleet for novices. Race Officer Nick Blore designed a dynamic 2x beat and run course, maximizing the racing area on the 5-acre Flash.
In the Silver Fleet, Fletcher Sheehy (Bala SC/Llyn Brenig SC) took first place, with close competition from Sammy Udal-Bell (Shropshire SC) and Nesta Wood-Wilson. The tightly contested Training Fleet saw Harry Mitchell (Optimist, Leigh & Lowton SC) clinch victory by just one point over local sailor Esme Povey (Topper).
Event organizer James Eastbury highlights the club's commitment to nurturing junior talent and the importance of community support. With a growing junior fleet and successful turnout, Gresford SC is excited for the next Dragon Series event at Port Dinorwic SC on May 10. For more details, visit www.welshsailing.com/dragon-series.
