Sandberg PalmaVela kicks off its multi-class regatta today in the picturesque Bay of Palma, featuring around 100 boats from 20 different nationalities. This event is set to reveal exciting competition dynamics that could reshape the racing scene this season.
The 22nd edition of Sandberg PalmaVela showcases a thrilling lineup, starting with the Maxis. Defending champion Tilakkhana II, along with the Wally 80 Rose and Pelotari Project, leads a fleet ready to battle across seven races, including two coastal courses. Sports Coordinator Vivi Mainemare expresses enthusiasm about the strong participation, highlighting how welcomed teams feel.
Meanwhile, the ORC 0-1 and ORC 2 classes join the fray, with notable entries like the Spanish Navy's Aifos and the Viking IX of Erik Tejedor. The remaining classes, including TP52 and ORC 3-5, will commence racing tomorrow.
With favorable weather ahead, anticipation builds for one of the most comprehensive editions yet. This regatta is not only a highlight of the season but also an essential qualifier for the ORC Mediterranean Circuit and the IMA Mediterranean Maxi Offshore and Inshore Challenge. The first warning signal is set for 13:00 today.
