A sudden gust claims Roger Wilson as an early victim, snapping his mast at the ILCA Open at Wembley Sailing Club. Here’s why this dramatic event sets the stage for an unforgettable day of racing.
In Race 1, Simon Hamnett from Papercourt SC takes the lead at the windward mark, but the competition heats up as John Curran and Will MacDonald push forward. Will capsizes near the leeward gate, allowing Simon to secure victory, followed by John, Joe Cic, and Neil Crosby from Bowmoor.
Race 2 sees Julian Bradley initially in front before capsizing at the leeward mark. This misstep lets Joe and Richard Bettes from Fishers Green take advantage, but John Curran surges ahead to claim victory, while Simon is forced to retire.
Race 3 is a nail-biter, with John, Will, and Simon battling for supremacy. Joe catches up during the run and pulls ahead in the final stretch, finishing second to John.
Adeel Khan from WHSC dominates the day, winning all three races, with Hugh Leach, Andrzej Bijarski, and Michael James following. Peishan Huang stands out as the first woman finisher in an ILCA 6, while Mark Heretier takes the Legend category.
A fantastic day concludes with Naina's delicious Indian cuisine.
