Brisbane Race Week kicks off with a thrilling Day 1 at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, where divisions battle it out on Moreton Bay. What follows puts the whole situation in context as division leaders set the stage for an intense week ahead.

Under challenging conditions with winds reaching up to 28 knots, the competition heated up. Tool Time, skippered by Stephen O'Brien, claims the top spot in the Monohull Performance division, while Ambition, helmed by Helen McDouall and Kim Salthouse, leads the Monohull Cruising division. In the Performance division, Kerb sets the pace on elapsed time, with Dog House quickest in the Multihull fleet and Recherche leading the Cruising class.

The unique "hot lap" format produced standout moments, including Balancing Act, led by Tony Craner, who showcased the power of instinct, finishing just 30 seconds off his time estimate. Race Officer Paul Bolton emphasizes the day’s focus on decision-making and crew performance, noting positive feedback from all competitors.

With nearly 50 boats expected for Day 2, the fleet gears up for passage racing, promising more excitement ahead as Brisbane Race Week continues to gain momentum. Racing resumes today on Moreton Bay.
