Wild Oats X dominates the opening day of the 2026 Sail Port Stephens Super Series, showcasing its legendary racing pedigree. This performance sets the stage for the rest of the competition.
Under brilliant autumn sunshine and light north-easterly winds, the day featured both monohulls and a diverse fleet of multihulls. Wild Oats X, helmed by Phi Harmer, led the Super Racer Cruiser Division from the start, navigating a challenging figure-eight course around Little and Boondelbah Islands. The breeze ranged from four to 10 knots, but Wild Oats X proved too strong, finishing first on both the line and PHS. Rob Aldis’ Mylius 50 Daguet 2 secured second on PHS, closely followed by David Gotze’s Lyons Cawse 60 Triton.
Harmer highlighted the significance of the day, stating, “It’s a bit of a new era for us,” hinting at upcoming upgrades for the iconic boat.
In the Cat Division, Michael Meehan’s Corsair 760R, Multihull Central Starship, claimed PHS honors, marking a successful debut for the multihulls at the event. Meehan praised the Corsairs’ versatility, especially in windier conditions.
With stronger winds expected on Saturday, sailors eagerly anticipate the next round of competition.
