The 48th Spi Ouest-France Banque Populaire Grand Ouest regatta wraps up with Banque Populaire dominating the Open 7.50 class. Here’s why their consistent performance could redefine sailing excellence. If you appreciate top-tier competition, a thumbs up goes a long way.
Under sunny skies and challenging easterly winds of 14 to 17 knots, the regatta saw an impressive total of thirteen races. Lois Berrehar and the Banque Populaire crew, featuring Basile Bourgnon, Quentin Ponroy, Paul Philibert, and Tugdual Guillemot, finished with 20 net points, never dropping below third place. In a fierce battle for second, Nicolas Groleau and BT Blue, with Alan Pennaneac'h and team, clinched the spot just two points behind after a strong finish that included two race wins on the final day.
Thomas Normand and Altaïr secured third place, showcasing impressive consistency with two race victories. Frédéric Moreau’s All Purpose crew finished fourth, maintaining a top-five streak throughout the event. Despite a rocky start, Edouard Alikiagalelei and Open Bar showed resilience, finishing fifth. The international Challenge Ocean team, represented by Benjamin Owens and Ossian, wrapped up in eighth, facing penalties that hindered their potential.
