Tensions peak on Day 3 of the 61st Congressional Cup as Cole Tapper and Jeppe Borch battle for the final semi-final spot. This showdown not only highlights their fierce rivalry but also sets the stage for a dramatic conclusion to the round robin.

Race officials completed four flights today, intensifying the competition at Belmont Pier. The crucial match between Tapper and Borch saw Borch take an early lead, but Tapper refused to back down, engaging in a fierce tacking duel. As they approached the leeward gate, Borch attempted a luffing maneuver, but Tapper’s crew executed a brilliant move to overtake. From that point, Tapper built a solid three-boat-length lead, sailing triumphantly to the finish line.

With this victory, Tapper secures fourth place and controls his destiny heading into the final day. Borch, however, must win both remaining races and rely on Tapper's losses to stay in contention.

Meanwhile, Scotty Dickson and Oscar Engström finish with 5 wins and 11 losses, unable to qualify for the semi-finals. The evening featured the Junior Congressional Cup, won by LBYC’s Jack Brodsky alongside defending champion Eric Monnin. Racing resumes tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. PDT, with spectator viewing free at Belmont Pier.
