Eddie Bridle showcases dominance at the Stokes Bay Sailing Club Skiff Open, finishing nearly flawless in the 32-boat Musto Skiff fleet. This event, touted as the unofficial Southern Championships, attracted competitors despite challenges like high fuel prices and light winds.
Participants gain insights into the competitive landscape as Bridle, the reigning National Champion, takes first in three races and secures second in one. Fellow sailors Ben Clegg, Bruce Keen, and Andy Tarboton keep the pressure on, providing thrilling competition throughout the weekend.
Saturday's races, held in winds of 8 to 12 knots, see newcomers like Will Taylor and Duncan Ward embrace the steep learning curve, adding excitement to the event. Sunday escalates the action with stronger winds and waves, allowing skiffs to plane upwind, but Bridle remains firmly in control.
With Bruce Keen and Dan Vincent rounding out the podium in second and third place respectively, the event underscores the depth of talent in the fleet. Looking ahead, the next gathering is a training session in Weymouth in early May, set to prepare competitors for the World Championships in Carnac this June. The results from Stokes Bay highlight not only individual skill but also the growing camaraderie in the Musto Skiff community.
