Coral World's all-women team sails to victory at the 7th Annual Hotel & Tourism Association Regatta, showcasing the power of teamwork. This event highlights not only competitive sailing but also the vital role of marine tourism in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The regatta, held at the St. Thomas Yacht Club, saw five teams from the hospitality sector compete fiercely aboard IC24s. Coral World's team, featuring Erin Moran, Eryca Hassing, and Sam Shively, clinched first place with just 5 points, while Margaritaville's squad finished second with 13 points. The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism secured third with 16 points, successfully defending last year's position.
Racing conditions were ideal, with 12 to 15 knots of wind fostering thrilling competition. Teams quickly honed their skills, culminating in a tightly contested final race around Great St. James. Bobby Brooks, director of the St. Thomas Sailing Center, emphasizes that sailboat racing builds essential teamwork and communication skills.
This event not only celebrates sailing but also strengthens connections within the tourism industry, proving that teamwork can lead to success on and off the water. Coral World's triumph represents a significant milestone for women in marine sports.
