The ORC World Championship 2026 kicks off its inshore racing phase in the Gulf of Naples, showcasing thrilling competition on day one. This prestigious event, organized by the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia and supported by Rolex and Loro Piana, promises to deliver intense racing action.
The fleet is divided into two race areas, with Classes 0 and A battling it out off Sorrento. In Class 0, Summer Storm, helmed by Andrew Berdon, clinches the race victory, solidifying its overall lead after both offshore and inshore rounds. Vudu, led by Mauro Gestri, finishes second, while Jon Desmond’s Pac52 Final Final takes third. Gestri highlights the challenging conditions, stating every tactical decision counts.
In Class A, British entry Ran, skippered by Niklas Zennström, claims victory, followed by Garm 24 of Sweden and Interlodge 44. Alberto Bolzan praises the team's performance amid tricky conditions.
Classes B and C encounter complications, with Class B’s initial race abandoned just as Class C was about to start. Eventually, Mascalzone Latino, commanded by Vincenzo Onorato, wins in Class B, while Andrea Castrucci’s Chisum triumphs in Class C. The stage is set for a gripping championship ahead.
