Jai Hindley, the last winner at Blockhaus during the Giro d'Italia in 2022, reflects on his early days tackling the climb as an amateur. This insight reveals the personal connection he has with this iconic ascent as he gears up for a crucial test in the upcoming race.

Hindley, who trained with the amateur team Aran Cucine Vejus in 2015, recalls his first experience on the 13.6km climb, describing it as “pretty bloody long” and one of the longest he had faced at that time. Living just 50km away, Blockhaus holds special significance for him.

As the Giro returns to this challenging stage, Hindley emphasizes its importance. “It’s the first really big test,” he states, noting that it will showcase the strengths of the general classification contenders. With Stage 7 stretching over 244km, fatigue will weigh heavily on all riders as they approach the tough final ascent.

This year, Hindley rides with teammate Giulio Pellizzari for the newly Red Bull-sponsored team, aiming to challenge the dominant Jonas Vingegaard. Expect critical gaps to emerge on Blockhaus, setting the tone for the rest of the Giro d'Italia.
