More than 2,000 riders are set to converge on Nannup, Western Australia, for the SEVEN race, a precursor to the highly anticipated UCI Gravel World Championships in 2026.

This event not only showcases the growing popularity of gravel racing but also highlights why Nannup is becoming a global hotspot for cycling enthusiasts.

The SEVEN race, which joined the UCI Gravel World Series in its inaugural year, has seen remarkable growth since its inception. Starting with just 235 riders in 2018, participation surged past 1,000 in 2021 and is now expected to exceed 2,000 this May 16. Riders from 29 countries will compete, underscoring the event's international appeal and reputation.

Event director Stephen Gallagher attributes this success to the stunning landscapes and community support that have characterized SEVEN since its beginning. He notes that the World Championships coming to Nannup is a direct result of this growth.

Among the competitors, defending champions Tiffany Cromwell and Mark O'Brien, both Australian national champions, will return alongside former winners Brendan Johnston and Tasman Nankervis, promising a fierce contest as the excitement builds for the 2026 championship. This year’s race is more than just a warm-up; it’s a critical milestone in the evolution of gravel cycling.
