UAE Team Emirates firmly rejects claims that the use of time trial tyres contributed to crashes during stage 2 of the Giro d’Italia. This comes after comments from Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe, who suggested the GP 5000 TT tyres lack grip compared to standard road tyres.

Despite the controversy, UAE maintains that their team leaders—Adam Yates, Jay Vine, and Marc Soler—did not experience tyre issues during their falls. The GP 5000 TT, supplied by Continental, is touted as one of the fastest road tyres available, suitable for various cycling disciplines. However, Thomas and Rowe questioned the decision to use them in wet conditions, noting that they might lead to reduced traction.

Rowe highlighted the risk, pointing out that the first rider to crash was from UAE, raising concerns about the team's decision-making process. Thomas acknowledged that while Ineos has also used the GP 5000 TT in the past, it sparked discussions within their own team regarding their performance under different conditions. UAE Team Emirates, confident in their strategy, continues to prioritize their choice of equipment despite the scrutiny.
