Cycling teams are embracing satellite internet technology, enhancing communication and data capabilities from their team cars. A noticeable trend at this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico sees multiple teams outfitted with Starlink antennas, a system from Elon Musk's SpaceX, boosting data and video streaming for tactical advantages. Visma-Lease a Bike and Lidl-Trek led the charge, integrating these antennas early in 2025, and now even ProTeams are on board.
Configurations vary; some antennas are mounted on bike racks, while others rise on poles above team bikes. Visma-Lease a Bike showcases a larger antenna adorned with their signature yellow and black branding. Team cars serve as strategic hubs, with sports directors utilizing live race feeds and UHF Radio Tour communications to relay crucial information to riders. The integration of Starlink enhances decision-making and strategy execution on the go, pushing the boundaries of technological advancement in the sport.
