Lorena Wiebes and SD Worx-Protime target stage wins at the Vuelta a Burgos as they prepare for a strong Giro d'Italia campaign. This race runs from May 21-24, following Mischa Bredewold's recent victory at Itzulia Women, which boosts their confidence.
Wiebes, known as the fastest finisher in the women’s peloton, returns for her second stage race of the season, aiming to build momentum ahead of the Giro d’Italia Women starting on May 30. She already boasts six wins this year, including three stages at the UAE Tour Women.
The Vuelta a Burgos features three sprint-friendly stages before a decisive mountain finish at Lagunas de Neila. Wiebes hopes to sharpen her sprint leadout train with teammates like Barbara Guarischi. “I always start a race with the idea of going for the win,” Wiebes states.
Her recent performance includes a victory at Omloop der Kempen, where she showcased her sprinting prowess. Wiebes emphasizes the importance of race rhythm, saying, “I need those race efforts,” as she prepares for the challenges ahead. The focus is clear: fine-tuning strategy for the Giro while continuing their momentum in Spain.
