Italy dominates the 57th Semaine Olympique Française de Hyères, clinching three gold medals and two silvers in an impressive display of sailing prowess. This year's event sees 705 competitors from 59 countries, with a total of 224 races completed over six days.

Italy's standout performance includes a gold in the Nacra 17, where Maria Giubilei and Gianluigi Ugolini outperformed the overnight leaders from Argentina. "It was Champagne sailing today," Giubilei remarks, highlighting the perfect conditions that made this week a celebration of sailing.

Other nations, including France, Australia, China, Argentina, and Britain, also showcased their skills, keeping the competition fierce. Matt Wearn of Australia secured his second gold, while Italy's double Olympic champions, Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti, faced challenges, finishing fourth after equipment issues.

The event tested a new format for finals, aiming for a more open competition to enhance podium opportunities for finalists. SOF Event Director Ed Russo praises the organization and conditions, noting that all races were completed successfully. With the next Semaine Olympique Française scheduled for April 17-24 in 2027, anticipation builds for the next round of Olympic hopefuls.
