San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama will not play against the LA Clippers due to right ankle injury management. This decision comes after the Spurs’ victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. Wembanyama dominated that game with 41 points and 18 rebounds in just 29 minutes.
Earlier today, Wembanyama, 22, earns his third consecutive Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month award for March. In 15 games during the month, he records an NBA-high 180 rebounds, 56 blocks, and 20 steals. His 3.73 blocks per game lead the league, while he averages 1.33 steals per game. Wembanyama also showcases his defensive prowess with 10 games featuring four or more blocks and six games with two or more steals.
Currently, he averages 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 29.2 minutes this season. His blocking and rebounding averages rank first and fifth in the NBA, respectively. As a favorite for NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a key contender for MVP, Wembanyama has played 62 games this season. He needs to appear in three of the Spurs’ final five games to meet the 65-game requirement for postseason award eligibility.
