The Mirror fleet makes a thrilling return to Netley Sailing Club with 28 boats competing after a successful Nationals. This event reveals the fierce competition that could shape the rest of the sailing season.
Saturday kicks off with a light breeze that quickly builds to 15+ knots by race three. James and Meris Date lead the pack at the first mark, but Ian and Ted Dobson seize the advantage and hold onto it, finishing strong. Races two and three see Nick and Seb Charles capitalizing on wind shifts, finishing ahead of Ian and Ted, and James and Rhys Stuart. Special mention goes to Ian and Elizabeth Sharps for dominating the windward mark in race three.
Sunday’s conditions are less favorable, with winds hovering at 8-10 knots, creating challenges for the PRO. Race four becomes a tactical battle, with James and Merris initially leading but ultimately losing ground to Nick and Seb, Matt and Pippa Burge, and Ally and Nicole Pots. In race five, it’s Nick and Seb who snatch second place, while Ian and Ted win the final race, but it’s not enough to secure the title.
Nick and Seb Charles take the championship, illustrating the unpredictable nature of the competition. The next events include the Mirror Northerns in Sunderland, followed by opens at Looe and Poole.
