The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron's Etchells fleet just wrapped up the thrilling second edition of the Noel Paterson Corithian Cup, showcasing fierce competition both on the water and off.
This weekend welcomed 16 teams, with notable entries like Jason Antill’s Flirtation and Stephen Broadbent’s Pegasus. The racing kicked off with a perfect 10-knot northerly breeze on Friday, where Flirtation secured the first race victory, followed closely by Noel Paterson's Waterloo Too and Todd Anderson’s TAG. The excitement continued with tight finishes; Race 2 saw Dave Smith's The Saint take the lead, while Race 3 crowned Dave Healey’s Rapscallion as the day's final victor.
Saturday brought unexpected wind conditions, with gusts reaching up to 17 knots. TAG captured their first race win, while Flirtation bounced back with two bullets, proving their resilience. The weekend wasn't just about racing; it fostered camaraderie among nearly 100 participants, highlighted by a lively seafood ‘long lunch’ and engaging Q&A sessions with sailing legends Vaughan Prentice and Chris Anderson.
The weekend culminated in the presentation of the Pick of the Year trophy, awarded to Fleet Captain Brad Ginnivan for his outstanding contributions to the fleet.
