Jessie Diggins finishes her Olympic career with a fifth-place finish in the 50-kilometer race at Tesero, Italy. Exhausted but proud, she collapses in the snow, just seconds away from another medal. “I can confidently say I could not possibly have tried harder,” she states. Diggins, a trailblazer in American cross-country skiing, reflects on her journey with gratitude. She made history in 2018, winning the U.S.'s first Olympic gold in cross-country skiing alongside Kikkan Randall. Despite suffering rib bruising, she clinched a bronze in the 10-kilometer at the Beijing Games. At her last Olympics, Diggins battles through muscle cramps but misses out on bronze to Switzerland's Nadja Kaelin. Beyond competition, she pledges to advocate for climate change awareness and support those with eating disorders. As she departs the Olympic stage, Diggins emphasizes her commitment to making a difference on and off the snow.
