LeBron James and Coco Gauff will carry the U.S. flag at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead are set to lead the team during the closing ceremony. Looking ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympics, long track speedskater Erin Jackson and bobsledder Frank Del Duca are named flag-bearers for the opening ceremony, with figure skater Evan Bates and ice hockey player Hilary Knight closing out the Games.
The tradition of flag-bearing dates back to the 1908 Summer Games in London. Historical highlights include Michael Phelps in 2016 and Simone Biles in 2016, along with Erin Hamlin in 2018 and Josh Shuster in 2022. The U.S. continues to honor its athletes with this prestigious role at each Olympic event.
