UK Athletics pleads guilty to corporate manslaughter in the death of Paralympian Abdullah Hayayei. The 36-year-old athlete suffered fatal injuries from a collapsing metal pole during training at Newham Leisure Centre in London on July 11, 2017. Hayayei was preparing for the World Para Athletics Championships when part of a throwing cage fell on him while he practiced shot putting. The organization admitted to causing his death by supplying faulty equipment at a sanctioned event. Previously, UK Athletics denied the charge and a lesser health and safety offense. Keith Davies, 78, former head of sport for the 2017 World Championships, pleads guilty to a health and safety charge but denies gross negligence manslaughter. The case is now set for sentencing in early June. Davies remains on bail and will provide a pre-sentence report to the Probation Service.
