Manchester United gains a potential advantage in the pursuit of Sandro Tonali after reportedly turning down a January loan proposal from Newcastle for Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils aim to bolster their midfield this summer, especially with Casemiro set to exit when his contract ends.
United has been linked to several midfielders, including Tonali and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, both of whom are also targets for Manchester City. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirms that United re-engaged Tonali’s camp recently to explore his situation and Newcastle’s asking price.
Arsenal has also shown interest in Tonali, while City prioritizes Anderson. United is cautious about spending excessively on Tonali, emphasizing that the right price is crucial.
The rejection of Newcastle’s approach for Ugarte could help United reduce Tonali’s transfer fee, allowing them to offload a player who has started only seven Premier League matches this season. Ugarte's future remains uncertain, with Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Napoli reportedly monitoring his situation.
Both Manchester clubs are keen on Tonali and Anderson, but significant progress on bids or agreements is yet to be made. The transfer saga continues as United looks to refine their midfield options.
