SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week (SMIRW) sells out in a record eight minutes for 2026. Townsville Yacht Club (TYC) officials celebrate the event’s enduring popularity, with racing set for 27 August to 2 September. Event Chairman Mike Steel reports, “Three minutes into opening entries, we were three quarters sold out – in eight minutes it was all over.” Newcomers include Alan Grant’s Elliott 770 Loose Cannon, Andrew Hesselmans’ Steinman 40, Noeleen III, and Kate Leeson’s Adams 10, Wazza Red Boat. For those who missed out, Steel confirms a waitlist is available. TYC continues to accept entries from trailable yacht owners, offering a discounted fee of $550. The On Board Sailing Partnership (OBSP) also provides a chance for early bird entries. Among the quick entrants are Jennifer and Brenton Carnell from Geelong, competing with their Marten 49, Phoenix49. SMIRW is the final stop on the Northern Queensland regatta circuit.
