UpWind by MerConcept teams up with World Sailing to elevate the future of offshore racing by selecting six international sailors for an exclusive racing experience. This collaboration aims to create vital connections between Olympic sailing and professional offshore racing while promoting diversity in the sport.
On April 29, during Act 1 of the Ocean Fifty Series in Sainte-Maxime, these six sailors from Australia, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, and Peru will dive into a day-long immersion in a professional Ocean Fifty team environment. This initiative reflects a commitment to gender balance and diverse representation, aligning with UpWind's mission and World Sailing's Steering the Course women's strategy.
The selected sailors will experience firsthand the intricacies of high-performance offshore racing, guided by UpWind by MerConcept's expertise in coordination and safety. This initiative not only enhances access to elite racing but also opens new career pathways for emerging talents in sailing.
Louis Giard, Team Manager of UpWind by MerConcept, emphasizes the importance of this program in fostering opportunities and inspiring the next generation of offshore sailors. With the support of founding partner 11th Hour Racing, this collaboration aims to drive greater inclusion and diversity, solidifying the bridge between Olympic and offshore sailing.
