Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona dominate the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía in Palma Bay, clinching the overall victory. The Spanish pair showcases stellar performance in the medal series, maintaining a top position throughout the regatta. On Saturday, they turn in almost perfect sailing, winning one medal race and taking second in another. "The goal is to secure a medal in every competition. We are happy; it's tough to stay consistent on the podium," Xammar states.
At just 20 years old, Cardona expresses her joy: "Winning here in Mallorca, at my club, is thrilling. This is where my journey began, and to win the Trofeo Sofía is incredible."
Second place goes to British champions Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris, who face challenges during the finals despite a strong qualifying series. "We tried to play around with Jordi, but it didn’t go as planned," Wrigley admits, reflecting on their fourth-place finish in the first race.
The bronze medal battle sees French duo Matisse Pacaud and Lucie de Gennes triumph after a close contest. "We had an amazing week, and finishing third in our first senior fleet is fantastic," says Pacaud.
All scheduled races are completed amid excellent conditions in Palma Bay. The sailors now set their sights on the next event in the Sailing Grand Slam.
