The 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels concludes with a spectacular awards ceremony, showcasing the debut of new competition formats ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson from Sweden claim overall victory in the Nacra 17 class, leading their fleet throughout the championship.
The ceremony, held at Ses Voltes near Palma Cathedral, features dignitaries including Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez and Regional Minister Jaume Bauzà. World Sailing Vice-President Dave Hughes and leaders from various sailing federations also attend, adding prestige to the event.
Järudd and Jonsson lift the iconic Princess Sofia trophy, dedicating their win to their late grandparents, marking a bittersweet moment in a challenging week. Nine nationalities are represented among the ten class winners, with nearly 900 boats and over 1,100 sailors competing.
Spanish teams shine as Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona take gold in the 470 Mixed class. Paula Barceló and María Cantero earn bronze in the 49erFX class, narrowly missing gold due to a late penalty.
The event, organized by Bahía Activa and supported by World Sailing, highlights the vibrant sailing community in Mallorca, enhancing its reputation as a premier sailing destination.
