Twelve IOM skippers, including talent from south of the border, gathered at Barshaw Park, Paisley for the thrilling second round of the 2026 MYA Scottish District's IOM Travellers series. This event showcases a remarkable variety of eleven different designs, featuring traditional wooden boats and cutting-edge 3D printed models.
At 11:00, the race kicks off under overcast skies and shifting breezes, ideal for competitive sailing. Race Officer Robert Rooney sets a challenging course, with skippers navigating from the northeast to the southwest corner of the pond. The competition heats up as Tich Summers, John Owens, Ian Dundas, and Stewart Campbell advance from the B and A heats, marking their territory in the leaderboard.
Ian Dundas claims victory in Race 2, followed closely by Simon Thomson and Tich Summers. The dominance of these four skippers continues through to Race 5, with Dundas and Summers exchanging leads. After a lunch break, racing resumes with Cameron Darroch impressing in his first outing, while seasoned sailor Gordon Allison finally breaks into the top ranks.
By Race 9, the breeze shifts again, leading to strategic adjustments. Ultimately, John Owens secures the win in Race 10, highlighting the ever-changing dynamics of the competition.
