The BMW M Hybrid V8 is about to face its ultimate test at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, having recently celebrated its first victory in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Here’s why the technical updates are crucial for performance this season.

Project manager Achim Klein emphasizes that the new, smaller kidney grille of the vehicle reflects BMW's future design direction. The update allows for improved drivability, especially under changing conditions. The drivers want a car that is more manageable, which is supported by the new two-tier Balance of Performance (BoP). This ensures that performance remains consistent under various conditions.

However, the update was initially perceived as problematic. At the first race in Daytona, BMW lagged significantly in practice, and the drivers struggled to control the car. Bernhard Demmer, WRT program manager, reports on the challenges faced during the first major event with a newly formed team. While testing restrictions limited the engineers, BMW managed to turn things around in Daytona, raising expectations for Le Mans.
