Day 1 of the 2026 Cowes Classics Regatta kicks off with high winds and no racing.
Although competitors faced disappointment with racing canceled due to forecasted gusts of up to 40 knots, the event's spirit remains unshaken. Participants still engage in valuable activities, including race masterclasses, honing their skills ahead of the competition.
In an exclusive afternoon tour, crews gain insight into the craftsmanship of Ratsey & Lapthorn, one of the oldest sailmaking businesses in the world. Tim Hancock, the event's PRO, expresses the shared frustration of competitors and race management alike but remains optimistic. “Everyone is looking forward to our Pre-Regatta drink and dinner,” he states, highlighting the camaraderie among participants.
The evening supper at the clubhouse brings together competitors, owners, and supporters, setting a festive tone for the regatta.
With racing set to resume today, June 5th, and fourteen races planned across various fleets, crews are eager to capitalize on the favorable forecast. The Cowes Classics Regatta promises three more days of thrilling competition, supported by generous partners contributing to both the racing and social activities throughout the event.
