Dani Sordo returns to the WRC after 19 months away, ready to compete in the Rally of the Canary Islands. This comeback marks his first participation in the Rally1 category since the Rally Acropolis in Greece in 2024, where he achieved an impressive second place.
The Spanish driver, along with his co-driver Cándido Carrera, re-joins the Hyundai team, driving the third factory i20 N in his home event. Sordo expresses his excitement: "I'm really looking forward to getting back into the Rally1 car and the Rally of the Canary Islands, for the second time since 2005."
Hyundai is looking to redeem itself after a tough season, where last year their best result was a fifth place. However, in Croatia, they were close to achieving their first asphalt victory since 2024. With three different winners in the first four events of the season, the competition is fierce, and Takamoto Katsuta leads the championship.
Sordo remains optimistic: "I aim for the podium, but I'm always looking for the win. In Spain and on asphalt, why not go for it?" With a good setup on his i20 N, the Spaniard feels ready to take on the challenge. His return promises to be exciting in an increasingly unpredictable championship.
