Sebastien Ogier reveals the crucial factors that hindered his challenge against Elfyn Evans at Rally Japan. The nine-time world champion aimed for victory but finished second, trailing Evans by 12.8 seconds. Starting sixth on increasingly dirty stages forced Ogier to play catch-up, costing him 16.7 seconds on the first pass through Isegami’s Tunnel, primarily due to his road position.

Moreover, Ogier struggled with Hankook’s hard tarmac tyre, which had previously brought him success in the Canary Islands, but failed to deliver in Japan's extreme heat and technical stages. Known for his exceptional tyre management, Ogier found the conditions particularly challenging. He explained, "The temperature and the corner-to-corner nature of the stages put a lot of energy into the tyres." Despite trying various setups, he couldn't adapt the car to suit his driving style and acknowledged, "These tyres will never be great for me."

Ogier praised Evans for his strong performance, stating, "Elfyn has been strong and deserved the win." He maintained, however, that while their performance wasn't up to expectations, it wasn't a poor showing either. With this event behind him, Ogier shifts focus to upcoming challenges in the season.
